Drawing: Clothes on the Female Fashion Figure

This is from a DVD that accompanies the book Fashion Illustration for Designers by Kathryn Hagen. Ms. Hagen is a fashion illustration instructor at Otis College.

Ms. Hagen is very adept at creating lovely, stylized figures, heads and croquis for fashion design. Her tools include: Copic markers, Prismacolor pencils and markers, Tombo brush pens, gouache, liner pens and Milky Gel pens.

Even if you don’t study fashion illustraion per se, this book is an excellent resource for improving your skills with drawing and rendering the clothed figure. You can find it here

    She’s not tracing over a design…rather, she’s tracing over a template to save time

    she was tracing it because thats how fashion drawings work. you have a chroqui you dont have to draw the same thing over and over again

    that’s because she fastforward the video. He/she took their time drawing this (well it’s odvious he/she was tracing the drawing)
    so they don’t want to take up time on the video.

    The point is, that shes drawing fashion, thats what needs to be detailed, and using a silhouette is common for designers. Its about the dress, not about what pose she traced.
